The Training Room

November 29, 2007 – 2:38 pm

The training team is in the IS department at our firm, which is fairly typical (and we prefer it that way). Because we are not part of HR, it has made communications with them more difficult from time to time. Of particular interest to us is new hire training.

Turns out, it’s important to them as well.

Last week we had the opportunity to meet with recruiting directors to talk about making the new hire experience at our firm more cohesive and effective. It was a really good meeting, but that’s not what I wanted to say here.

Near the end of the meeting, we were talking about using the training room as the central location for all of the new hire orientation process. Then Tom said something profound (as he often does):

It’s the training room, not Training’s room.

Do you view your training space as your domain, or is it a resource (that you administer) for learning of all kinds in your firm?

Nice turn of phrase, Tom
